Our first zoom session of 2025 features our Medical Advisor Dr Ben Lawrence, along with two special guests - Professor Bill Wilson and Associate Professor Mike Hay.
Ben will provide an update on what’s new and noteworthy in neuroendocrine cancer care in New Zealand. He will also introduce you to local cancer researchers Professor Bill Wilson and Associate Professor Mike Hay from the University of Auckland who are focusing on development of a new drug that could potentially enhance PRRT.

About our guest speakers:
​
Associate Professor Michael Hay obtained his BSc (Hons) and PhD in Chemistry from The University of Canterbury, New Zealand. After postdoctoral positions at Imperial College, London, and the University of Auckland, Michael was appointed as a Research Fellow in the Auckland Cancer Society Research Centre in 1991. He was appointed as an Associate Professor in 2011 and leads a group investigating tumour selective drug delivery targeting the tumour microenvironment. Michael was appointed Director of the ACSRC in 2020.

Dr Emily Carr-Boyd is an Anatomical Pathologist who works at Auckland City Hospital, with specialty focus on neuroendocrine tumours, where she reviews and presents pathology at the national NET multidisciplinary meeting weekly. She also has special interests in gastrointestinal and liver pathology including liver transplant pathology.
Emily is originally from Sydney and attended Sydney University Medical School. She then completed her pathology training in both Sydney and Auckland and undertook a fellowship term at University of Pittsburgh Medical School, after which time she returned to Auckland as a consultant histopathologist.
Zoom-In: Nutrition & NETS

Which foods will help to ease my NETs symptoms? Shall I cut meat out? Is coffee ok? Can certain foods help diarrhoea?
Our NETS dietitian will be hosting a Zoom session focused on your questions to do with nutrition and NETs.
Please send your questions at least 2 days before the Zoom session to hello@neuroendocrinecancer.org.nz These will be anonymous and addressed in a general sense. Not all questions may be discussed.​
